What does Ad-Darr mean?
Ad-Darr must not be understood as an isolated attribute of malice. It signifies that harm, trials, and loss are within Allah’s sovereign power and wisdom. He is the ultimate cause of all conditions, and this name is paired with An-Nafi to show that neither harm nor benefit occurs outside His decree.
How can I call upon Allah with Ad-Darr in dua?
Invoke with deep humility to ask for protection from trials and to acknowledge that as He is the one who allows hardship, He is also the only one who can remove it.
Reflection
Reflecting on Ad-Darr removes the fear of created things. It teaches that no person or system has ultimate power to harm unless the Creator permits it for a higher wisdom.
Source note
Theologically paired with An-Nafi to maintain the balance of Divine attributes.
